IHPIndividualized Health Planning (IHP) Sessions
Start your New Year's Resolutions today!

If you are interested in improving your overall health, reducing stress, managing your weight, or developing an exercise plan, take this opportunity to participate in our series of six face-to-face health-planning sessions with an experienced wellness consultant. These sessions include biometric screenings for blood pressure, body composition, and cholesterol.

Over 700 UA faculty and staff are registered for their Individualized Health Planning Sessions (IHPs).

Anchorage IHP sessions are now full.
Thank you for your positive response to our IHPs at UAA. Although sessions are full, we will keep you updated with any changes.

Fairbanks and Juneau still have a few IHP sessions left, but don’t wait too long to sign-up or they may be gone.

In Fairbanks, we've added a new IHP session location for new IHP participants in January - Butrovich Building, Room 109-C, on Wednesdays from 12-5pm. In addition, a small allotment of initial sessions will be opened up in January for the other locations at UAF and UAS. These sessions will be limited and on a first-come first-serve basis.

So register today! Simply click on your campus's IHP session link below and follow the instructions.

UAF IHP participants will get their choice of an SRC pass or an Alaska Club pass (good for one month), after attending their third session.

Holiday Health Screening Results
Thank you to all who participated and congratulations to our Wii Winners

WIN for Alaska, Inc. hosted their 2nd annual Holiday Health Screening event on all three major campuses and the turnout was an overwhelming success.

Nearly 600 screenings were conducted in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau. UA staff and faculty came out in force to get accurate pre-holiday measurements, healthful holiday recipes, and of course to sign-up for a chance to win one of the three Nintendo® Wii Sports that were given away at the event.

Congratulations to the lucky winners of the Nintendo Wii Sports:
Katharine Jones Brandenburg, UAA
• Jackie Alleyne-McCants, UAF
• Barbara Burnett, UAS
Enjoy your gift and use it well.

Being Healthy Pays
Get The Point 2010 Incentive Campaign begins February 1

Being healthy pays when you participate in Get the Point (GTP). The tiered incentive campaign gives you points for your physical activity and also having a healthful lifestyle.

Look for details in January's UA Health Link.

December Get the Point Health Focus
Get Enough Vitamin D

Make sure your daily Vitamin D intake is adequate and enter your information in the GTP Tracking System.

During an Alaskan winter, the sun’s rays are too weak to make Vitamin D through our skin. Therefore, we must rely on food and supplements during the winter.

  1. Eat foods rich in Vitamin D, such as:
    • 3.5 oz of salmon (360 IU)
    • 3.75 oz of sardines (500 IU)
    • 5 oz of canned tuna (235 IU)
    • 1 cup milk (100 IU)
    • Vitamin D fortified orange juice (100 IU)
    • 1 cup soy milk (100 IU)
  2. Take a vitamin supplement. Your doctor can give you a blood test and then estimate the amount of added Vitamin D you should take in accordance with food, exercise and sun exposure. Available supplements contain 400 IU to 1000 IU of Vitamin D.

The GTP Tracking System can be used year-round to record your healthful habits and activity. However, you only earn rewards during an incentive campaign. The next GTP incentive campaign starts February 2010.
