Weight Watchers
Last chance to show interest

UAS Campus
Juneau, are you interested in starting a Weight Watchers at Work group?

If 15 - 20 people are interested in joining a Weight Watchers at Work group on the UAS campus, we may be able to get a group going.

Depending on how many are interested, the group would meet weekly for 13 - 17 weeks on campus at a cost of approximately $186 per person. As of Wednesday, May 27, there were six interested respondents.

UAF Campus
Fairbanks, are you interested in Weight Watchers on the west side of campus?

A Weight Watchers group is already in full swing on the east side of campus Tuesdays at 12 pm. Now, there's talk of trying to add another group on the west side. As of Wednesday, May 27, there were 13 interested respondents.

UAA Campus
The Weight Watchers group on the UAA campus is held Mondays at 5:30 pm (weigh-in at 5 pm) in the Consortium Library, Room 307/302A.

Interested participants may join the group at any time during the 13-week program.

June Get the Point Health Focus
Skin cancer awareness

We all know that applying sunscreen before venturing out in the sun is the right thing to do to protect yourself against over exposure to UV rays.

This month, challenge yourself to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least 15 SPF every day you are exposed to the sun.

It's worth 20 points in Get the Point
Health/Safety Decision: “Wearing sun block with SPF when exposed to the sun” (10 pts)

Wellness Events: “Participated in this month’s Health Focus on the Health Link” (10 pts)

Overall Improvement in General Health and Well Being
Victoria Hillwig
[My wellness consultant] helped me find news ways to improve my health in general. I take vitamins on a daily basis now, drink lots of water, exercise almost everyday, and have competed in over 4 races (Ski for Women, Heart Run, Bike for Women, and Gold Nugget Triathlon).

The Health In Action program(s) have helped me..."find self-confidence that I can do these races. I may not be winning them..., but I have the determination to finish them. I also have been working out with a co-worker who also has the same goals and determination has I do, and we have lots of fun together!"

Gold Nugget Triathlon, May 17, 2009
Lara Madden
"Heidi Beer [WIN for Alaska, Inc. wellness consultant] encouraged me to sign up and train for the event...keeping track of how I was training and eating made all the difference. She is awesome!"

Don't forget to let us know when you've done something that makes you proud. We'll add your name and accomplishment to the Health Link.
