Ima's Two-month Check
She's been on her own for four weeks

The IHP program was designed with a specific time-frame in mind. The first three sessions are each two-weeks apart. The fourth and fifth sessions are each four weeks apart, and the sixth session is 12 weeks after that.

The reason for the incremental increase in length between sessions is so that participants can gain confidence in working toward their health goals while still under their Wellness Consultant's guidance.

Ima is meeting with her Wellness Consultant this month after four weeks on her own. She feels like she did pretty well working toward her goals, but she is glad she has another meeting before being left on her own.

Ima's biggest challenge is food. She's is very busy with work, family, and exercising that she doesn't have a lot of time to cook and she's been finding herself picking up to-go dinners on the way home more than she should. She also confides to her Wellness Consultant that transitioning her family to healthier foods has created a mutiny of sorts at her house.

Wellness Consultant on Nutrition
Cooking in bulk is a good way to ward off the to-go dinners. Ima's Wellness Consultant suggested that one night a week or on the weekend, Ima cooks enough extra for a couple meals and freezes it. There's even a website dedicated to people just like Ima: http://www.once-a-month-cookingworld.com/.

Her Wellness Consultant also suggested that if to-go or restaurant dining is necessary, it's not the end of the world, it's just important to make healthy choices. If eating salad, get the dressing on the side. Ask for a side of vegetables/fruit instead of potatoes, pasta, or bread.

About that mutiny, continue to buy and eat healthy food at home. Being a good role model for your family is the first step. Also, view the USDA's videocast on our site about being a Nutritional Gatekeeper.

Ima will have another four weeks to try out the suggestions before her Three-month Review. She schedules her next session and leaves with renewed hope.
