Meet Vanessa Polvi
WIN for Alaska, Inc. Wellness Consultant
My background in health and wellness….
When I think about how I got into this line of work, I have to go back to my collegiate swimming days. I had the opportunity to be a swimmer and a volunteer coach for Oregon State University’s swimming program. It was then that I realized I loved to help people. Coaching provided a deeper insight into the power of education. Watching athletes make small positive changes and succeed became incredibly inspiring. This endeavor eventually led me down a path of becoming a health and wellness educator. It took me some time, and some convincing by the faculty at the school where I was coaching, to figure out that coaching was actually a dynamic form of teaching. It was then that I shifted my mentality and my career goals to include some type of education in the health and human sciences field.
I have always been fascinated with the science of human physiology. The subject provides a solid basis for the larger concept of overall physical health and wellness. I am passionate about learning and understanding how our bodies work and ultimately how they relate to overall health. These are fast paced, ever-changing subjects, and I enjoy being an investigator.
How I view health…..
I view personal health as an invitation to choose one's self above all else. How important are YOU in your own life? I truly believe that being happy and healthy means taking care of yourself first and foremost. Making goals and taking time to find out what makes you thrive as an individual helps you be the best mother, father, daughter, son, colleague, friend, or companion.
My hope is that by sharing knowledge and building authentic professional relationships with my clients, I can help breakdown the limitations that prevent them from living their most healthful life. I understand that a healthful lifestyle is a journey.
On a more practical approach, I believe that eating and sleeping well and exercising are critical components in a healthful lifestyle. The importance of making these fundamental changes first often times set the stage for more targeted changes. My approach as a wellness consultant is to get to know what works and what doesn’t work, and use that as a guide for personal growth.
I have always been passionate about sharing and helping people make positive changes. As a wellness consultant, I get to share with and help people every single day. |
