Nicole Duclos, Sitka
Nicole Duclos of UAS-Sitka was honored at the 2008 Sitka Health Summit in May. Community members nominated people who have made a difference in wellness, and an awards committee from the Sitka Health Summit decided on the final recipients. One individual and one group were recognized in each of six categories: physical activity, nutrition, tobacco prevention and control, injury prevention, holistic health and general wellness.
Nicole was honored in the general wellness category for her work with the University of Alaska Southeast-Sitka campus employee wellness team. As part of the team, Nicole was instrumental in the Sitka campus’ healthy vending machine initiative, increased the healthy snacks provided at Sitka campus events, and promoted several walking safety demonstrations and community health-oriented events. She also organized participation in both local and statewide walking programs, a campus health fair, and the annual faculty/staff Mt. Edgecumbe climb. |
