UA Health In Action
What is it and how can you make a difference?

UA Health In Action is the University of Alaska's wellness program and a partnership between Wellness Initiatives Network for Alaska, Inc. (WIN for Alaska) and the University.

You Can Make a Difference. Below is a link to the online UA Health In Action Interest Survey. The purpose of the survey is to collect information about what motivates you to make positive health choices, and activities you would like to see be a part of the wellness program.

If you complete the survey by September 21 you will be placed into a drawing for $100, if you complete it by September 28, you will be placed into a drawing for $50.

A letter outlining the UA Health In Action program will arrive at all UA staff/faculty homes in the next two weeks. Also included is an invitation to staff/faculty and dependents to take the interest survey.

Thank you for caring. Now let's improve our health, together!

Director of Benefits, University of Alaska

Wellness Break
It's like a mini health fair that comes to you.

A Wellness Break is a free half-day event brought to you by WIN for Alaska—Your Wellness Team. We offer blood cholesterol and glucose screenings, healthy snacks, a powerwalk, and mini-presentations.

If you are on a campus in a city other than Anchorage, Fairbanks or Juneau, and have more than 20 employees, we already have plans to visit your location.

Contact us for more details, or download the Wellness Break Request Form.

Wellness Walk Winners
Congratulations!

At our last Wellness Walk of the season in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, we held a drawing for a Hydracoach Water Bottle.

The winners:
Anchorage: Joanna Claxton
Fairbanks: Carol Haas
Juneau: Linda Blefgen

Just because our wellness walks are over doesn't mean you have to stop walking. Taking a 15-minute walk break can increase your productivity and sharpen your focus.

September Wellness Challenge
Fruit and Veggie Month

Increase your intake of berries, plums, citrus, apples, cantaloupe, spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, and cauliflower and see how much better you feel.

Try this recipe for Summer Vegetable Ratatouille from Prevention.com. It's a great and tasty way to eat veggies.

Check out the Online Wellness Center for more information on how to get more fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Food, Fun, & Health = Snack Wars
UAS has healthy competition

On August 15, UAS promoted healthy snacks with a friendly competition they called, Snack Wars. Each department was challenged to provide a healthy snack, its recipe, and a brief explanation of its healthy qualities. Instead of their morning coffee break, staff/faculty visited other departments to sample snacks and vote on which was the most healthful. [read full story in the Juneau Empire]

Is your department doing healthy, fun stuff? Let us know! You may end up in the next Health Link eNewsletter.
